Child Safety at Parkwood Green Primary School
As part of the Victorian Government’s commitment to implementing the recommendations of the Betrayal of Trust report, all organisations working with children are required to comply with Victoria’s 11 Child Safe Standards.
At Parkwood Green Primary School, the safety, wellbeing and inclusion of every child is our highest priority. We are committed to fostering a strong culture of child safety and maintaining an environment where every student feels safe, respected, valued and empowered to learn.
We have zero tolerance for child abuse and are committed to taking all reasonable steps to protect children from harm. This commitment is embedded in our policies, procedures and everyday practices, ensuring that child safety remains at the centre of everything we do.
The Victorian Child Safe Standards provide clear guidance and practical actions that organisations must take to create and maintain child-safe environments. We believe that every student enrolled at our school, and every child who visits our school, has the right to feel safe at all times. We strive to create a welcoming, inclusive and child-friendly environment where children are encouraged to participate, express their views and enjoy their learning without fear of harm.
We are committed to continually reviewing and strengthening our child safety policies, procedures and practices to ensure we provide the safest possible environment for all children.
Our policies and procedures support this commitment by ensuring:
- All staff, volunteers and visitors understand and comply with our Child Safety and Wellbeing Code of Conduct. In developing our Code, we recognise and align with relevant professional standards, including the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and the Victorian Institute of Teaching Code of Conduct.
- Robust recruitment, screening and induction processes are in place to minimise the risk of child abuse and ensure all staff receive appropriate training, supervision and ongoing professional learning in child safety.
- Clear policies and procedures enable staff, volunteers and members of the school community to identify, report and respond appropriately to concerns or allegations of child abuse.
- Child safety risks are regularly identified, assessed, monitored and managed to ensure our physical and online environments remain safe for all children.
- Students are supported, encouraged and empowered to speak up if they feel unsafe, with accessible and age-appropriate processes in place for reporting concerns.
- Children are taught the knowledge, skills and confidence to recognise unsafe situations, understand their rights and seek help from trusted adults when needed.
