Our Commitment to Cultural Safety

At Parkwood Green Primary School, we are committed to creating a culturally safe, inclusive and welcoming environment where every student, family and staff member feels respected, valued and has a strong sense of belonging.

Cultural safety is about more than celebrating diversity on special occasions. It means ensuring that every child can be proud of who they are, feel safe to express their culture, language, beliefs and identity, and know that they are accepted and supported every day.

Our school community is strengthened by the many different cultures, languages and experiences that our families bring. We believe these differences enrich our learning and help our students develop empathy, respect and a deeper understanding of the world around them.

Throughout the year, we promote cultural safety by:

  • Embedding respect, inclusion and belonging through our School Values and SWPBS expectations.
  • Teaching students about different cultures, perspectives and traditions across the curriculum.
  • Celebrating significant cultural events, including Harmony Week, NAIDOC Week and Reconciliation Week.
  • Recognising and valuing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and perspectives in our teaching and learning.
  • Responding promptly and appropriately to any incidents of racism or discrimination.
  • Encouraging students to be active upstanders by speaking up, supporting others and showing kindness.
  • Building strong partnerships with families and welcoming opportunities for parents and carers to share their culture, traditions and experiences with our school community.

We are proud of the inclusive school community we continue to build together. By working in partnership with our families, we can ensure that every child feels safe, respected and empowered to achieve their best.

If you have any suggestions or would like to share your culture, language or traditions with our students, we would love to hear from you. Together, we can continue to foster a school where diversity is celebrated and everyone belongs.
