School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS)

At Parkwood Green Primary School, we are committed to creating a positive, safe and inclusive learning environment where every student feels valued, respected and supported to thrive. As a School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) school, we use an evidence-based framework that promotes positive behaviour, strengthens relationships and fosters a culture where every student can succeed socially, emotionally and academically.

Our approach to positive behaviour is built on the belief that students learn best when they feel connected, safe and engaged. Through consistent expectations, explicit teaching of positive behaviours and meaningful recognition of student success, we create a learning environment where students are empowered to make positive choices every day.

When SWPBS is implemented effectively, students and staff benefit from:

  • Positive and respectful relationships across the school community.
  • Increased engagement in learning.
  • A safe, predictable and inclusive learning environment.
  • Improved social and emotional wellbeing.
  • Greater student confidence, independence and resilience.
  • More time focused on quality teaching and learning.

At Parkwood Green Primary School, our School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support framework is underpinned by our core values of Respect, Responsibility and Safety. These values guide the way we learn, work and interact with one another every day.

Through SWPBS, we strive to:

  • Build positive relationships based on mutual respect and understanding.
  • Provide stimulating, student-centred learning environments.
  • Encourage students to be active participants in their learning and develop their voice and agency.
  • Respond flexibly to the diverse needs, interests and strengths of every learner.
  • Recognise and celebrate individual and collective achievements.
  • Create authentic, enjoyable and enriching learning experiences that encourage creativity, innovation and positive risk-taking.
  • Support every student to develop the social, emotional and academic skills needed to thrive in an ever-changing world.

Our school-wide expectations are explicitly taught and reinforced throughout the year. Using our Behaviour Expectations Matrix, students learn what Respect, Responsibility and Safety look like across all learning and play environments. These expectations are regularly revisited to help students develop positive habits and make responsible choices.

Students who consistently demonstrate our school values of Respect, Responsibility and Safety are recognised through our ClassDojo positive acknowledgement system. Students earn Dojo points both inside and outside the classroom when they demonstrate our expected behaviours, make positive choices and contribute to our school community. These points can be redeemed through our Dojo Shop, where students can choose from a range of tangible rewards and memorable experiences. By recognising and rewarding positive behaviour in meaningful ways, we reinforce our school values, celebrate student success and encourage a positive and inclusive school culture.

At Parkwood Green Primary School, we believe that when students feel safe, respected and connected, they are empowered to achieve their personal best. Together, we are fostering a community where every student belongs, every achievement is celebrated, and every child is inspired to reach their full potential.
